We are delighted to announce that HMC Urgent Care & Medical Imaging has been granted Standard Health Benefit (SHB) status.

To give you some background, for five years, we found ourselves embroiled in a legal battle with the Bermuda Health Council, an organization that had, for reasons unbeknownst to us, denied us SHB designation. This decision threatened to deprive countless patients of much-needed technologies and, more critically, it jeopardized the access to excellent healthcare that our community deserves.

But today, I stand before you with gratitude in my heart and joy in my soul, for we have emerged victorious in our fight to secure the SHB designation for Hamilton Medical Center. The legal ruling, combined with the passionate protests from our patients, played a pivotal role in this achievement. Our patients’ unwavering support, their voices echoing in harmony with ours, have made all the difference.

This designation is not merely a badge of honor; it is a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable among us. It means more access to the healthcare our patients desperately need. It means a brighter future for our community, where excellent healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental right.

Part of what makes HMC an excellent facility, and one that is now accessible to all, is our commitment to cutting-edge medical technologies. We boast Bermuda’s only open MRI and a suite of modern imaging equipment. These technologies are more than just machines; they are tools of precision, delivering superior image quality while minimizing radiation exposure. This is the future of healthcare, and it’s now at all residents’ fingertips, thanks to our perseverance together.

Our dedicated staff at HMC are the backbone of our institution. Your excellence and unwavering commitment to providing top-notch care have been instrumental in our success. I salute each one of you.

In closing, I want to express my deepest appreciation for the trust our patients have bestowed upon us. Our victory in securing the SHB designation is your victory as well. Together, we have shown that when a community comes together to protect their right to quality healthcare, nothing can stand in our way.

Thank you, and may we continue to stand strong together in the pursuit of better healthcare for all in Bermuda.
